Heraldry

Coat of Arms of John Carchrie Campbell.

My achievement of arms as drawn by Tomasz Steifer, December 2014.

I have been interested in heraldry and coats of arms for many years, in fact since I was at primary school. On 3 May 2013 I assumed my own coat of arms. The blazon of the shield is:

Quarterly Purpure and Argent, a Cross counterquartered between four Fleurs-de-lis Argent counterchanged.

It took a little while longer to come up with a crest, but this was done in the autumn of 2014, with assistance from the International Association of Amateur Heralds (of which I am an Associate Fellow). Displayed on this page is an emblazonment by Tomasz Steifer of the compete achievement of arms, and includes the heraldic badge which has been adopted by me too.

The motto is “Qui timet Dominum”, or “Who fears the Lord”. It is from one of the Psalms at Sunday Vespers in the 1961 Breviarium Romanum.
